Took the kayak to Colebrook yesterday with a fishing buddy whos' been there before , but this was my 1st time. She said shes never seen it so low, the boat launch is closed for awhile for repairs....so we took the back road were we found some access to launch....this was a road that she said usually is under water .......& when we followed it, it brought us back to the boat launch. I was having a hard time believing this road was flooded under normal conditions. We paddled all the way down to the dam, I was trolling a few different lures but the one that was catching the most was a #7 Rapala floater....average smallies...but when we got up to the damn, I was seeing some bigger fish , just missing em, & lost my Rapala to a crazy pickeral that cut my line. I was also flyfishing a small popper that was favored by the smallies because the action just didn't slow down.....even though after that paddle , I was slowing down. I could have used a nice breeze to help with the paddling but that didn't happen. Fished from 7am - 5p....alot of fish rising for some bugs, don't know where the sunnies were, didn't catch a single one all day .....only saw 3 other kayaks on the water. |

when it gets that low it reveals the 10 million places those big smallies could potentially be hanging around. ive seen the bridge fully exposed a few years back. ill have to take a drive up there soon to check it out. |

When we hit it a couple of weeks back, We marked many on the gps for next season. There was a minefield of humps!
I have a handheld and plan to walk a few of the other lakes that do draw downs. _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake
