Seeing the Pequonnock at Beardsley Park has been cleaned, I headed up to Twin Brooks Park and the funeral home to see how active the bass and pickerel were. Wanted to see if crappie were waking up too. Arrived at the funeral home just before 2pm.
Saw bluegills very thick in areas. Saw some nice bass hanging around structure along the shore. Saw schools of yellow perch hanging out near the bigger bass. Saw 2 crappie with each one hanging out with separate schools of bluegills.
Lures I threw included yellow perch Clackin Minnow CNM-7, custom painted X-Rap Shad Shallow, glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-8, brown trout Jointed J-7, and 1" soft plastic crayfish rigged on a hot pink 1/8 ounce jighead.
Did a few different stop and go retrieves with the HJ-8 and CNM-7. Fish seemed interested in the HJ-8 but would either just slowly follow it or tap at it. Had bluegills and pumpkinseeds going for the J-7 while playing topwater with it and landed a keeper 9" seed. Tried to get the perch, bigger gills, crappie, and bass to hit the crayfish. Landed 3 dinky bass with it and an 8" bluegill. Crappie and yellows didn't seem too interested in it.
Left the funeral home around 3:30pm and headed to Twin Brooks. Ponds I worked were the one with the heron statue, main pond, and larger pond.
At the pond with the heron statue I played topwater with a chartreuse ghost X-Rap Pop XRP-7. Caught 3 short pickerel and missed a few explosions.
Worked areas of the main pond by throwing silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4, silver shad Jointed Shallow Shad Rap JSSR-7, custom painted Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7, custom painted X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6, bleeding olive shiner Clackin Crank CNC-53, and glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-8. Tried playing topwater with the SSR-7. Had taps on the SSR-7 while playing topwater and saw a crappie follow it in 1 area. Saw a few bass in 1 spot but never had them hit..
Threw the JSR-4 and SSR-7 at the larger pond where 2 brooks feed in. Nothing hit the JSR-4. Had a large swirl while playing topwater with the SSR-7. Hit other areas of the larger pond, including the November hot spot. No bass caught this time at the November hot spot. Lost what seemed like a nice bass though.
Hit the road at 7:24pm |
