Headed down to Seaside Park and started off at the Remington discharge around 1:30pm. High tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 4:44pm.
I wasn't seeing any bait around the the water wasn't running. Checked the harbor buoy last night and the water temp got up to just above 62 last night.
Lures I played around with included a 10cm original pearl shad Flat Rap, 9cm shad Shallow Shad Rap, 11cm silver Clackin Minnow, 9cm chrome Skitter Pop, 13cm flake blue Max Rap, and 3/4oz silver blue Krocodile.
After trying most of those lures at Remington, I headed over to the cannon facing out to the breakwater.
When I get to the cannon, I see a group rigged up on the bottom with 3 rods and mackerel. I had some room so played around with all of those lures. Also saw a few occasional breaks farther out alongside the breakwater.
As the tide got higher around 3:30pm, sea robins got very active.
The guys who were chunking were getting big ones like crazy, with a legal shoreline keeper fluke in the mix.
I landed 1 sea robin with the Clackin Minnow and a 15" schoolie with the Shallow Shad Rap. Had what was either a schoolie or taylor blue follow the Shallow Shad Rap.
I wasn't having any luck with the Kroc, Max Rap, Flat Rap, and Skitter Pop. Fish seemed to still be deep.
Later once things slowed down and I wasn't getting anymore followers and the chunkers weren't getting anymore hits, I headed over to the point where it takes a sharp turn in before coming to the long rocky wall. I had no luck there.
Around 5:30pm I went back to the cannon. Nobody was there but still casted out. Stuck with the Clackin Minnow and Shallow Shad Rap. Lost a sea robin and keeper fluke with the Clackin Minnow before losing the lure. Had another schoolie or taylor follow the Shallow Shad Rap.
Hit the road just after 6:30pm.
An hour before high tide is when I started seeing swarms of silversides come in and traveling along the shoreline. Also had what were either hickory shad or bunker occasionally following my smaller plugs. Saw 1 tiny mummy chug on the surface. When I went back to the cannon I saw small and medium sized schools of what I'm pretty sure were sand eels.
If the rain and storms hold off, I'm planning on heading back down for the next day or 2. |

Snuck out Sat. night well into Sunday morn trying fro Blues at first on a Pier and then moved to another location for the Striper bite. Neither happened, all freaking Sea Robins until I threw a chunk on so big that the Robins couldnt gulp it and then the pole went still for hours. Left finally at 4:45 in the morn. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

Been getting blues and stripers every day. Th bite has been between 8-9pm and between 430-530am. Wasting your time if you go any other time from shore unless it's the middle of the night targeting stripers which has been productive .
Michael, did you switch out your rapala hooks with heavy duty saltwater grade ones? If not, I recommend you get VMC 4x strong hooks to use and upgrade your split rings. Otherwise you are gonna get pissed when a decent size fish straightens out your hooks. _________________ Trust me. Use waxworms ! |

I headed back down to the cannon today but the heat was outdoing me. Pool day at the condo complex instead. |
