Hi All!
Well......There's always some Diehards!
Got a "Kick/Laugh" reading some posts, on 2 other forums, from some guys from the southern portions of Connecticut begging and I do mean literally BEGGING for ice condition info....on waters lets say North of I-84.
Did they get any responses.........NOPE NOT 1
I'm not surprised at all ......Not many (and I don't blame them) at this time of year would even concider revealing the where abouts of the few if any lakes or ponds that may still have some decent ice conditions left.
Put that kind of info out and every "Diehard Hardwater Jockey" in the state will be there the next day (Would look like a Mall parking lot at Christmas time!)
All season I've noticed guys posting......"Had a great day on lake/pond X-Y-Z" or washing out the backgrounds on pictures they took.
Ice fishing use to be done by only a few.....Now, its a major winter affair and everyone wants info on where the fish are biting.
I usually do post where I've fished, but I may reconcider that decision come next season, as I have noticed an increase in new comers to the waters I fish after I make a post.
IT'S GETTING MORE AND MORE CROWDED EACH YEAR
Anyway.......Come most of next week the temps will be in the 40's....So By-By Old Man Winter and Ice
HELLO SPRING and SPRING FISHING

Ice is long gone SeaDog. West Hill should be gone by my spring break which is two weeks from now. I'll be up there every morning trolling for my 20 pound brown that I saw last fall |

I would beg for info on some iced up waters but, after seeing many reports of people falling through I rather stay off the shady ice and fish some local open water I found.
Lake X gets annoying especially if a person rarely if ever gives out info where they fish.
I usually would try to figure out who keeps the fish and who releases them.
I rather tell those who release the fish where I have been catching the fish and maybe what I am using.
I have seen many places get crushed by those who keep loads of fish
For all we know lake x is a private pond filled with big fish... _________________

Ive seen the same thing. your "local pond", and your "secret spot" is great... and rather than tease the rest of us, how about keep em your secrets.
I tend to blab about what or where Im catchin, with few exceptions. and like SeaDog indicated, I have definitely noticed an increase in traffic on the ice in the past few years. there once was a time, that the lake, even Bantam, was pretty much "yours". I dont even go to Bantam anymore... cuz its a circus.
Although my jet-sled is still in o the garage floor, blocking the wheels of the bass boat, Im truly hopin to get her out this weekend for her 2010 maiden voyage. Ice fishin is great, but only so long as I cant launch a boat. then, fagetabout it. Id much rather flip a jig from the bow of a bass boat, than wiggle one from the end of an 18" noodle atop the frozen tundra.
Along the "spring lines"... I had a big herd of Robins, a Grackle, and some starlings in the yard this morn; and saw a pack of woodies headed to the swamps behind the house... Its GO TIME. |

I just did some Ice fishing last weekend and had a great time. Although it was in North Central Mass. where the ice is still 16" to 18" thick (At least it was last weekend)
I probably shouldn't have gone because now I have opening day fever worse than ever. At least it got me back on this site again after my 2mo. hibernation from fishing. |

I would like to add when it comes to posting online I usually dont mind sharing because, I pretty much fish from shore and many on these forums prefer being on a boat.
If I do not post where I fished in a specific post usually someone will ask and I will tell them in my post...
Why not share especially if you are one in who believes in helping the sport continue to grow.
I dont mind telling people (most of the time) where I am fishing on the ice because, especially on BIG lakes there are many different areas to catch decent fish.
Most of the time I dont find many locals fishing the lakes res. ponds in my area so when someone posts lake x its a bit frustrating.. _________________

Ya it was in shallow water. In mid fall its the best time to see what a trout lake has to offer on a bright day with no wind. |

Sea Dog
That seems pretty selfish to say that you are not happy with new comers ice fishing, I'm just a kid and getting into it, and if there are not any new comers the sport of ice fishing will die. i guess i will have to be like all the other kids i know sitting on the couch playing a video game cause the ice is getting to "crowded" for new comers. |

Hi BHF!
You misinterperted what I wrote.
What I refered to was after making a post about where and how the fishing was at a particular place....That place would then be overwhelmed the next day or more with ice fishermen who normally wouldn't fish that place.
When I said "New Comers" I wasn't refering to "new participants" to the sport.
They are always welcomed
Here in New England, we're just not use to (or like) the ultra-large shoulder to shoulder crowds of ice fishermen as you see in pictures from Minnesota or Wisconsin.
Even when we have tourney's here in NE....The fishermen will "politely" space themselves apart so that they can get a nice spread for their tip-ups/jig holes.
It's just a natural case of fisherman courtesy here in NE.
Popping a tip-up within 10 ft. of another fisherman's, "already set", tip-up is just plain rude
I find that asking a fellow ice fisherman if I'm going to be too close to their set gear makes for better sportmanship
Best regards,
