I usually will put a swivel between my main line and a fluorocarbon leader. The other day I found myself with no swivels handy so I just used a surgeons knot to join the two lines. This got me thinking about what is more common. Do you guys put on a swivel or tie direct to the main line? Just wondering....

being that i tend to fish for some good size catfish, and they tend to twist up the line a lot, i tend to stick to a medium barrel swivel secured with a polomar knot

Live or dead, bait tends to spin so I use a swivel.

For artificial's I use a uni to uni on a braid to mono or fluoro connection. Some will spin anyway so let it unwind once in a while between casts.
