I'm with you all the way NF! I grabbed a trout pole to take my son the other day for the first time in a few years and didn't know how to use it anymore! It felt like such a toy in my hands! I used to be pretty good at trout fishing but man do I suck now. I really couldn't enjoy even trying to whip out such a small lure! I'll still go until my don cahoot's handle throwing bigger stuff for stripers but the second he can I'm done with fresh water!!!!! _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

I had some fun last summer with my trout rod and little surface lures when small 1-2 lb bluefish were abundant. It felt strange fishing with a one handed rod, but those little bluefish were a lot of fun on it. |

There it is. Fish finder and I are striper guys all the way. We will leave the tiny things you guys call trout for you. Only way I'm fresh water fishing is for friggin sturgin from now on. Screw all that rooster tail, tiny ass worms (no worm jokes at my expense please), and 4lb test. My trout rods are now being used to snake wires on job sites! The reels will be at bottom of keeney cove. Good luck freshwaterguys!
Ps....I'm really not this bitter . _________________ Better things happen at night! |

I recently started implementing short, 4-6" super light (16lbs) wire leaders into my rigs for night fishing to avoid having to retie in the dark. I did this only after losing a few rigs to large fish and wondering "how the hell are these things cutting the braid?" I came to realize, that after a few landed fish, the sandpaper-like teeth were wearing the line around or at the knot (polymar) enough so that if I didn't retie, an attempted hook set on a subsequent fish was enough to snap the line at the fray. The leader has eliminated this problem without negatively affecting the bite to hookup ratio. While we will never know the species of the fish that snapped the braid in this post, I think its perfectly plausible the striped bass teeth could wear through braid the way I have found LMB do. |
Never had it happen. Good to know though. Maybe it has happened and I blamed ablue fot it! Thanks for the tip! Good luck! _________________ Better things happen at night! |
