Best chance is fishing incoming tides after dark. The later the better.
Been pretty quiet for a few weeks.

About a week ago after the bluefish bite died, I saw small breaks on the surface in the shallows around Penfield Reef. It was after 9pm and I had a feeling they were stripers.

The Water got warm too quick this year I think which makes fishing from shore very hard! Ive been all over the state this year fishing all night and morn and lately nothing but sea robins and a few taylors.

I recently caught a 17" schoolie on a topwater at Penfield Reef. It was mixed in with small taylors that were feeding on silversides and peanuts.

If you can find them the sandworms should work.

Last night before the storm the bite was starting to light up at the Race. The ebb tide was picking up just as the storm was reaching the East Lyme area. Wish we could have fished for another hour! Nothing I hate more than having to leave fish that are starting to chew! It did put on quite a lights show.
