I know stratton brook is an overcrowded place, especially on opening day but it's been tradition since my brother and I were 13, so we did it again this year. Easily limited out 10x over (obviously only keeping our limit) catching browns, brookies, rainbows and tiger trout. My bro had the biggest fish of anyone there (the infamous breeder  ) It went 21.5" and I'm guessing around 4.5lbs or so. I held up an 11" dead trout that floated by for comparison.As is usually the case we saw a few nimrods trying to fly fish amongst a huge crowd of ...how shall i put this nicely.......less than "skilled" fishermen. Needless to say they weren't very productive to say the least.

You'll laugh when you hear this but it was caught on Chartreuse powerbait. That stuff outfishes EVERYTHING when it comes to hatchery trout.
THere was some idiot next to me w/ a surfcasting rod w/ a bobber, then 2 split shot below that, then a yum frog tied to a leadhead. The kid couldn't figure out why he wasn't catching anything

Fluke and Wishing, How are you guys rigging this? Small rolled up ball on a certain size hook?

I took a hook about size 10 (nothing particular, just something on the smaller side), and put 2 of the "trout nibbles" on and just squeezed them over the hook. I made it so the hook wasn't exposed and the stuff is soft enough that the fish will bite through it. Then, I put 2 slit shot sinkers about 12" up from the hook. (I use Power Pro so I use Fly Fishing extra strong tippet as a leader) Then just cast, let it drift a little, reel it in slowly bouncing it off the bottom.

Thanks for the info. Gotta try it out. Had been planning to head over to Stratton Brook soon to catch some trout dinner!

I didn't actually catch mine at Stratton, I'm in college in PA and we have the Yellow Breeches (kinda famous) and I caught mine there

Matt & Fluke,
Went out to Stratton Brook Friday afternoon in the light rain. Used the set-up you guys suggested......powerbait on hook, couple of splitshots. Limited out in a 1/2 hour, took some trout dinner home for my mother. Thanks for the tip!
