This was really more of a "get the boat out for the first time of the year" trip.
Time: 12:30 - 4:30PM
Water Temp: started at 48, ended at 52
Water Clarity: visibility about 4 feet, slightly stained and dirtier in some places
I've never been to Pickerel, so I did a little driving around. People I saw on the water reported few bites and tough conditions due to all the rain.
I caught a nice sized Pickerel for my first fish of the year on a rattle trap in 5 FOW around some grass in the middle of the lake.
I had a decent bass follow a chatterbait.
Nothing hit on a few new swimbaits I chucked to get the feel for them and watch their action. Nothing hit on a power shot rig I through tight to cover.
In all, just freakin' happy to have been on the water and in the sun!

Yep, I had the date wrong! I was there on Thursday. No, Mark. No pads starting up yet. No luck finding fish either. I went back today and caught another pickerel. I covered a ton of water, primarily throwing traps as a search bait but just couldn't get anything going. Absolutely thrilled to be out there though. I was with my 14 and 10 year olds. They were slinging spinnerbaits to no avail. One pickerel on a swimbait. Temps hit 54 today

I was at Pickerel today (4/2) from 4pm until after 8:30ish. I had several strikes on a rubber eel, but couldn't land anything with it. Those of you with lights on your boat - go there at night! I caught 2 bass without the benefit of sight. There was an obscene amount of splashing coming from everywhere after 8. I really didn't want to leave, but I couldn't even see the boat launch (which I subsequently, overshot.)
Lower Bolton had similar activity last night (4/1) although the splashing was less frequent and/or enthusiastic. _________________ Kira
