GKolyagin (aka Genna) and I hit the Reef early in the morning just as the tide was starting to go out. We were hoping to get into stripers and blues while it was still dark and hoping for fluke as the sun got higher. Genna brought his 11 footer and I brought my 8' Aerial Surf/Sargus 4000 20lb braid setup.

As we stood on the jetty waiting for the tide to get lower, Genna tried throwing live eels but never had a single nibble. I tried throwing a chrome Flat Rap FLR-16, chrome spotted minnow Max Rap MXR-17, pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-16, silver shad Jointed Shallow Shad Rap JSSR-7, chrome purple black Max Rap MXR-15, and green chrome orange Storm Jointed Minnow Stick JMS-14 but only had a quick bump on the JSSR-7.

As we made our way out on the Reef we also tried throwing topwater. The Norwalk side was the calmer area due to gusty 10 to 20 mph northeast winds. Both of us never got a single swirl.

As Genna tried throwing a few plugs and the live eels, I decided to stick with the JSSR-7.

I was hitting sea robins with the JSSR-7 so Genna decided to rig a white bucktail jig with a live eel, which got him 3 sea robins. Total on the JSSR-7 was 7.

We headed back to shore around 8:45am.

This time there was bait. Small sand eels were in good numbers.

With recent stormy weather, the Reef has changed again. It's more like a long narrow ridge now.
