Hit the reef today from about 715 to 915 and caught 6 small blues off a popper. I kept one to eat. Haven't had this much action in a few weeks. The blues were chasing and blowing up on small bait. I had one blue get away with the treble hook to that lure. Kinda disappointed about that. I also caught 3 sea robins, one of which I caught off the popper. Strange for robins to hit a popper. |

Fishing there at first light if it isn't storming.
Good to know you caught blues. _________________ Trust me. Use waxworms ! |

Fished the reef from about 8 to about 9 and only caught 1 sea robin. I had 3 or 4 top water hits with a new popper, and then hooked into a small blue but it came off. Then there was mad lightning in the distance so I booked it and got out of there. |

Thanks for the report FK.
As I got close to home from Twin Brooks I could see the lightning too. Looked at the radar and saw it was a cell that built up after passing Westport and heading out to LI. |

BTW
Was it the Bridgeport or Norwalk side that was producing the topwater? |

What kind of lure were you using? Did the treble hook snap off of the split ring or did the fish break the hooks off below the shank? You may want to consider some heavier duty stuff. |

That time I was using a Creek Chub popper. And today the same thing happened on the back hook with a gag's popper! I will put new hooks on soon. |
