Hi!
Had erans to do today in Waterbury.
On way back -> Stopped to see my friend Rick.
From there went by Stillwater and Park Pond -> Both with white ice still on them.
Went on to Winchester Lake -> Turned into the boat ramp and parked.
White ice still on the lake but the ramp area and about 30 ft. of open water in front of the dam.
While sitting there a BIG swirl occured in the open water in front of the dam.
Got out of my truck and walked to the dam to see what made the swirl.
Water is gin clear -> There maybe 2-3 minutes.
Then the "OMG moment" ocurred!
Out from under the ice comes this "HUGE PIKE"
This baby is easily well over 30 inches and Super Fat - A real Torpedo
Since only females get that big, I have little doubt that it was.
Probably so Fat because she's carrying eggs.
Watched her for 2-3 minutes till she went back under the ice.
Definitely got my blood racing!
Don't know what she was after because I didn't see any other fish.
Anyway -> Thought you guys would like to know -> Made my day

Cool! That must have been fun to see.
Can't believe there's still ice. I haven't seen any ice for a while. Well maybe I will after tonight |

1) She was after what ever she wanted, which leads me to...
2) You didn't see any other fish because she ate them all!
Thanks for the heads up SeaDog1. |

NO WAY !!!!
I was up there ice fishing and didnt get a bite nice to know they were at my feet the whole time and there i am walking over a mile!!!
If u saw a little white Toyota Tacoma i was on the ice cant belive that they are swimming right there ..ice is still 12 to 14 inches thick but it is going quick and really sloppy i was drilling holes every 10 feet or so and staying over shallow water on one of the colder ares of the lake...
Just my luck nice to know that those big girls made it through the winter!!! |

I grew up near the canal in Windsor Locks, as a kid I'd take my bike up the trail to fish the canal... caught a few bass in there back in the day.. anyway, where stony brook meets the river about 3rd of the way, there was this huge fish just lurking at the mouth of the stony. Had to be 3+ feet and wide... the following weekend, my Dad went with me on our bikes and it was still there! He thought it may have been a catfish or possibly a sturgeon?.. it was years ago, but I'll never forget that... another OMG was with a Pike also at Bantam Lake again, years ago with my Dad on the old Skeeter F-80 strada.. I think I was using a shimano baitcasting reel and 10# test.. some type of plastic grub on a jig head. I casted near some tall reeds and thought I was snagged...said "Dad, can we go over there so I can unsnag?"..... at that moment my line just shot like a bullet to the right! again, not sure at the time what it was, I got it to the side of the boat, it did one of those vertical snake jump moves, my Dad saw its teeth... he took pliers cut the line and said, don't worry Mark, it's still a catch! |

Sorry for the dead thread revival, but Winchester can be great in the summer/fall seasons on the open water too (provided you're careful of the water line tree stumps). Got this 41" on Labor Day. No winter weight to it, but what a great fight!

You know it! T1 terminators always! Used many other, cheaper spinners through the years, but the titanium shaft T1's are the best as far as i'm concerned. |

When the first pike took my buzzbait on Sunday, it bent the shaft almost 90 degrees. I gotta pick up a couple more of them. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Exactly, and they tend not to run right again after that. The titanium shafts are flexible and bend back every time. Terminator makes T1 buzzbaits as well. Highly recommend them for the big toothy critters |
