Hi Everyone,

Fished Halftide Rock, Cornfield Shoal, Hens and Chickens, and Crane reef yesterday. I got out on the water waaaay too late after finding the sheetmetal sheathing on the underside on my pontoon boat deck came loose. It took 2 hours anchored near the beach to get it off the boat so I could go out fishing, and we completely missed the tide.

Got to Halftide rock around 3pm and started our drift. We had 2 people with squid tipped fluke rigs, a third with live bunker and a fourth with chunked bunker. The only thing to get to the boat was a mess of dogfish.

We decided to head out to Hens and Chickens to see if we would have any better luck, but completely missed the tide by this point. I’m docked in S. Glastonbury, so we had to get packed up and head back up river around 5:30. All in all, a depressing day with nothing to show for it but a sunburn.

I’ll be heading out again next weekend, and could really use some advice. I’m going to be jimmy rigging a way to mount some rod holders, but for now I have no real way to troll. With that in mind, any recommendations on where / how to catch some bass? I’m fishing from a 26’ tri-toon, so I need to try to stay relatively close to the CT river. Again, Hen’s and Chickens, Crane Reef, Halftide, Cornfield, and Long Sang Shoals are all options, or really anything else around that range.

I’ve been fishing for spring stipers higher up the CT river for years, but this is my first attempt on my own boat in the sound, and frankly I’m pretty lost.
