I went to Nod Brook WMA today. Again. I arrived at 8:10 am with The Kitchen, El Habañero and The Other Woman. The air temperature was in the mid 40s. The forecast was for sunny skies and winds out of the north/northwest. Unfortunately, the skies were overcast and the winds were out of the south. The water level was high, about a foot higher than it was two days ago. Daryl (aka Daryl) arrived shortly after I. We took our time and launched into the lower (i.e., north) pond at about 8:45 am, Daryl in El Habañero and I in The Kitchen:

Shortly after we hit the water, I landed a 10 inch largemouth bass:

It thought that it was a smallie and caught one and a half feet of air on the way to the boat. Daryl and I had been throwing chartreuse spinnerbaits over the now submerged weeds in the south end of the pond, but the bass picked up a wacky five inch green pumpkin/red flake Senko off of the bottom. I continued to throw the spinnerbait and the wacky Senko as the brisk south wind pushed us to the channel on the north end of the pond. Neither of us got anything and the wind was blowing pretty strongly, so we decided to work our way back to the south end of the pond along the east shore to get out of the wind. Unfortunately, neither of us got any more action before Daryl had to leave. We got off of the water at 10:15 am.

After Daryl left, I put The Kitchen back on the roof of my Saab and replaced the spinnerbait with a Texas rig. I launched into the upper (i.e., north) pond in El Habañero at 10:45 am. TurtleKiss (aka Kira) showed up as I was fishing off the south shore of the north island. She launched in The Other Woman at 11:00 am:

And shortly after that, Cots6 (aka Mason) showed up:

Hey, Mason! He had only a short time to fish and was waiting for a buddy to show up, so he stuck to fishing from the shore. I'm not sure whether he or his buddy caught anything before they left, but I landed a 13 inch largemouth bass shortly after he arrived:

It picked up the wacky Senko off of the bottom near the beaver lodge on north end of the east shore. Meanwhile, Kira was back on the skunk, after not showing the proper respect to Gary Yamamoto on her facebook page. We fished around the pond for a few hours, but didn't get anything. I decided to head back to the beaver lodge and caught a 12 inch largemouth bass:

And, yes, it picked up the wacky Senko off of the bottom. Just after 3:00 pm, Daryl showed up again. Kira and I got off the water to make a few casts from shore with him. After he left at 4:00 pm. Kira and I hit the water again. She said, "I will not leave until I catch a fish." Luckily, just after sunset at 4:40 pm, she landed her first ever fallfish:

Of course, it picked up a wacky Senko off of the bottom. Go figure. All in all, it was a nice, if blustery, day out on the water. Unfortunately, however, my day didn't end well. After I arrived home and was unhooking my trailer, I caught a faint whiff of what I thought smelled like burning rubber. Then I noticed two drops of oil on the garage floor behind my car. When I took a look under the car, it was raining oil from the engine. Apparently, I damaged my oil pan on the way out of Nod Brook. I must have hit a rock with the pan. Guess what I'll be doing all day tomorrow.

Nice report. Sorry to hear about the car. That access to Nod Brook can be a bit tricky. Every time I drive over that ditch I wonder if I should be going there. As a matter of fact the first time I went I turned around because it looked pretty bad.

Good report. Nice that you guys got out and caught fish. I must be getting old because I stepped out yesterday and thought "man, it's cold out here". Unfortunately I think my season ended last weekend with a skunk from the shore at Bolton Lake. I'll be putting the kayak away this weekend, and start planning for next year...a full year with the yak.

I don't like the looks of those pointy mini-boulders either, but since I have rear wheel drive and no tailpipe, I've got nothing to lose. I'm surprised Saab doesn't put skid plates on all of their cars. Really sorry Phil...let me know if you need a ride.

The fallfish was not very exciting but it did have a nice reflective quality to it. I can't complain...it satisfied my requirements by being a fish so we could leave. That place had the Batterson wind vortex thing going on most of the day.

Yes, my hat is adorable. I've had it for several years...almost everywhere I go someone mentions the cuteness of the hat. I like it because it's not age-appropriate or mass produced.

I'm just writing this sentence due to an accidental double-post.

Your wife and my husband would probably get along great. I have selective hearing too.

I'll be without a car until Wednesday and out $850. Ouch! I had been thinking that my next car would be a minivan, but now I'm thinking SUV. I'll have a lot of time to think about it in the near future.

SWfish - I'm still not ready to put my kayaks away. I'm holding out hope for an Indian Summer.

Please tell me that $850 includes the installation of a metal skid plate. That's obscene if it's just for a replacement oil pan. Sorry, that just sucks.
I think you'd be happy with a 4Runner or Pathfinder...skid plates are standard on both (nightmares from my oil changing days.) Fortunately, the newer models have filter access panels.
