Went fishing last night near my house (yes seadog this is for you). I got a hit on my Sparo white frog on the second cast, a LMB about 1.5lb. Then the next few hours were horrible. It was insanely hot and there were Jurassic Park size mosquitoes out. I think I used half a can of OFF and was still giving blood. I went an hour with nothing more. At around 8:15 I got a hit on my black 2”(?) jitter bug. The fish seemed big so I set the hook. Next thing I knew there was a flying fish! I found the fish, revived it back to health and watched it swim away in the water. I guess it wasn't so big, heh. In between these two fish I did not get anything but a few small bites. I am guessing these bites were just sunfish/crappie. I fished green worms, white and dark spinners, black jitterbugs, baby bass super flukes and black/white frogs. Did anyone brave the heat and get anything good yesterday? |

Hi,
Yes! .... I fish mostly at night !
Not last night -> Too darn hot.
But yeah.....The sketters have been terrible this year! ..and big too!
Much cooler fishing at night and I find more productive.
The sound/splashes those big Browns make feeding at night does get your attention !

I was up at bigelow yesterday... only caugh 2 pickerels and 1 small bass... lots of activity though between sunfish swimming around the shores and some jumping in the middle of the lake. It wasn't as hot up at bigelow though, maybe the amount of trees and shade they provide? |

I've read that the heat doesn't bother the fish as much as the fishermen, thats where the "fish dont bite in the hottest part of the day" came from.
The water is much cooler than the air only a few feet down the temp change is drastic. Look for shady spots and shallow spots that lead to deeper water.
Check this video out. THis guy seems like he knows what he is talking about. Might make you go out and brave the heat a little more.

i was only fishing from shore so im thinking the bass went to the middle where the water was most likely cooler as the shore lines are shallow flats that bake in the sun |

I went out at 5 yesterday and my friend and I caught 17 bass. Most of the hits came around 7ish , but we did catch 4 bass in the begining. We fished Pinewood lake its a private lake in Trumbull. They were only hitting 7 inch powerbait worms and yamamotos. Nothing hit my top water but it was a good day of fishing. _________________ -Bass me a beer. |

Went out yesterday at about 4 and completely sweated out my shirt as sweat dropped from my nose...it sucked , but the fishing was decent. I caught a total of 11 bass nothing over 15 inches.the one big bass I saw wanted nothing to do with what I threw at him. I'll get him next time. I left the pond around 6ish. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

yeah, typical summer patterns for big bass is deep fishing, d/s, deepcranks, and football jigs, though they still tend to feed shallow at night |

Should also mention that just before the heat wave the top water bite was great. I think booyah is the company, but the fake frog they make, poppers, and shallow running paddle tail swimbaits have been producing the bigger fish for me. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Largemouths and other fish at private ponds that don't get pressured fight hard for their size. I've had that plenty of times with my specialty ponds. |

Same here Ryan. Even battling an 8" bluegill feels like a 1 pound largemouth. |
