Went out a 5:00am with a buddy and fished the flood in the eastern sound from Watch Hill back west to Bartlett's. The fishing sucked. Water was the color of black coffee throughout most. There were a bunch of boats out around Valiant Rock in the Race, as per usual, but I don't fish my skiff out there. Only real signs of life were the bait balls above Bartlett's, but nothing biting. There were a few small blues around the outflow, but I really didn't feel like spending time there. It looks like 4-5" of rain did a number on the bite. Took my friend sightseeing up the Thames and called it a day by 10:00a.m. Maybe it got better on the ebb tide. Hindsight being 20/20, maybe I should have launched in RI and tried for some cleaner water. Maybe I should have just stayed in bed. Now I have to go rinse everything down:(. Hopefully I can sneak out an evening this week, or next weekend's weather will cooperate enough for an Saturday night/Sunday morning trip.

It looked good at this point!

After doing some scouting yesterday I was surprised how murky the water was at high tide last night. Could hardly see bottom with my headlamp in knee deep water. Kayaked around the mouth of the Mystic River today at low tide and it was quite murky, but as the tide turned and I headed out the mouth it cleared up nicely.

I hit Bartlett's yesterday around 12-3 and actually had a decent day. 5 porgies and a Fluke (short). There was a ton of boats out there midday. Weather was phenomenal.

Same report in Milford after the rain....murky, choppy water. No bait seen, no fish except sea robins.

After hearing great reports about bunker and big blues and stripers, Sunday I checked out the Pequonnock at Bushwick Metals and found nobody there with the water quiet, murky, and flowing.

Between about 4 1/2 inches of rain with the previous storm and another 1 to 3 inches with this current system, I'd say surf fishing won't be too productive for a while.

Just read your report on that trip. Go figure. I started east at Watch Hill which was dead, worked all the way around Fishers, eventually heading to Bartlett's. Got there around 10:00. You may have seen me in the Triumph Skiff. The water was coffee at that point, with only a couple of boats. There was still a lot of bait just outside the reef, but nothing under it. We ran down to the outflow and after hooking a few blues but breaking off as I still had light tackle striper gear on, we decided to call it a day. I did not see any really clear water from Watch Hill in. Same today, though we finally found some stripers. Hoping by Tuesday night things settle a bit. Haven't seen any forecasts though.
