Hi, Just joined CTFT. This is my second season fishing and I think I caught the bug. Been fishing from a Kayak and loving it. My question is, I plan to take a few days off soon and want to hit some new places. Is lake zoar or lake mcdounough any good. Any recommendations? Appreciate any advice. I don't mind driving anywhere in the state. |

If you're interested in saltwater, I've been catching a ton of schoolies back in Stonington near Barn Island. Nice and sheltered for yakers. The flood has been decent. If it's something you're interested in, pm me and I can send you some of the spots that have been producing. _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

As anointed said, which town or city do you live in?
I have a kayak but no vehicle and am always looking for a kayak partner who has room for a second kayak. |

I have been doing fairly well the last 4 trips out to lake mcdonough. Although parking is $6 and launching a yak is an additional $5, It's definatley worth it for the scenic paddle.
With the on/off rain predicted, I'd call the boat house before going to make sure they're not closed:

For beach and boathouse information call 860 379-3036 (in season) or 860 278-7850 ext. 3110.
I was there this past Sunday hiking a partial trail and they were opened. |

If your new to Yak Fishing "Please Be Careful." Did it for a couple years. Zoar's a big river and boat traffic can be tough yaking. When the dams open the current gets strong. Throw in a couple jet skis and the wakes get big.
Good luck. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |

I agree with what Wanna Fish said.
Kayaking in bigger lakes and lakes that are part of a river can be dangerous due to boat traffic and water flow.
When kayak fishing in bigger lakes that have boat traffic and jet skiers, it's best to stay in quieter coves and bays. That also helps getting you away from any current. |

Ditto, tried lake winni in Maine last year kayaking during a holiday week. It was way too busy. _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"
