So this is my first post outside of the welcome section. I recently moved back to MA and the CT river is about 20 minutes from the house. It is in Erving, MA where the Millers River drains out. I am fishing from shore. I have been there a couple of times within the past couple weeks on the mouth of the Miller's River and have hooked up to a couple of small smallies. My questions are: What kind of fish can I expect to come this far upstream? I used to fish on the Merrimack River back in the day, but that was alot closer to the ocean as well, so I am familiar with that. I am interested in going after some channel cats (tried once about 2 weeks ago, but got skunked. Maybe the water was too cold). Anyone with experience on this side of the river, I would appreciate your input, and tips that might make my shore experience a memorable one.
Thanks and tight lines.

Hey, I'm originally from Mass, myself. Templeton, born and raised. Fished out of Bartons Cove a bunch of times, which is right where you are. Beautiful spot dude, pretty crazy in the summer, but really cool. Where you're talking about where the Millers comes in is loaded with small smallies. We've caught up 20 in the small stretch, lot of fun. If you can, I think they rent kayaks out of Bartons Cove, you do well in that whole area. There's a huge stretch of weeds near the island the eagles live on, run that with a spinnerbait, plastic worms, even topwaters. It's usually loaded with largies, and I hooked some of the biggest pickerel I've ever run into. So get out there, it's a great area. If you need more info, just reply back. Enjoy.

Barton's cove eh? I'm looking at the map right now. Looks like a nice area to cover between the shore and the islands. Thanks for the tip! Hope to get out there soon! Will post if anything comes of it.
Thanks again!
