I'm from Rocky Hill, CT. 17 years old. I love all kinds of fishing and my favorite fish to catch is the Smallmouth Bass! |

Welcome aboard!
So, where do you catch "the Smallmouth Bass"? My favorite spot is the Connecticut River. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Welcome. You should have some good smallmouth near you on the CTR! Fish from shore, yak, boat? _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

You got it, my favorite spot for Smallmouth is the CT River. PeCO, you seem to know what you are talking about so which lakes or ponds are good for Smallmouth and what is your go-to bait for them? |

Redneckangler, I only fish from shore so my opportunities are limited. I do have quite some luck though for Smallmouth in the CTR from the RH ferry dock. |

I really only target smallies in the Connecticut or at the mouths of rivers that feed into it, like the Mattabesset and the Farmington. I caught a bunch of short smallies in West Hill Pond that played dead after they were hooked. Weird, but true. Except for in the bigger lakes like Candlewood or Bantam, lake smallies really aren't that great. I'd stick to the Connecticut, if I were you.
I don't fish bait. A heavy football jig is good for fishing the bridge piers on the river. A couple of years ago, the piers of the Route 140 bridge were loaded with 3+ pound smallies. I'm hoping that the water level will be up high enough to hold them there, again, this Summer. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I fish the Housie for smallmouth as well. Worth the drive! Usually spinners, small Cleos, etc. Candlewod is good, recently written up in Bassmaster as one off the best lakes for targeting 5+lb large and smallmouth, but I think your area up to the mouth of the Farmington is some of the best water in the central part of the sate by far. _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

I am only a live bait fisherman. I don't use lures because of the cost and because I think live bait works better. My 2 favorite baits are shiners and nightcrawlers because they always seem to attract fish. |

JesseC, I catch mine off the Old Saybrook jetties. I use bunker or herring chunks when i'm targeting good ol' sea robins. My friend has caught quite a few using mackerel. |

Jesse and RHF,
Last year when the sea robins were very thick, I caught over 20 while surf fishing Penfield Reef in Fairfield. All were caught with a Rapala Flat Rap FLR-10.
Sea robins also chase live bait when predators aren't around. That was the case that day. |

nice RHF! and good stuff michael! i really wanna try and focus on catching fish on lures like that this year rather than live baits myself. i've got a fresh stockpile of assorted lures in my tacklebox that i've been collecting over the winter just waiting to be tried out |
