Now that we know for certain there was, as of yesterday, at least one mountain lion in the wild in Connecticut, what do hunters think? Should they be shot or left to live and roam free?

I saw pics of one on a friend's back porch. It was sitting in front of their sliding glass door showing teeth. Not a bobcat...it was a mtn. lion. It can't be the only one.

my parents live up in NH and they have seen mountain lions on their property on multiple occasions. the DEP up there denies that they exist in the state, but my parents know their animals pretty well... my girlfriend also saw it once when we were up visiting. at least we have plenty of deer around for them to eat.

It appears that the DEP is still in denial:

Two things: One - The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has determined that the Meriden mountain lion was from South Dakota. Two - When did the DEP become the DEEP?

RJS is correct.

The DEP has been denying it for years. Yet so many people have photos of them in CT.

I assume the DEP does not want to cause panic or concern from people who enjoy recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, biking, etc.

Thanks for the link RobO. This is a great scenario for CT outdoorsman. Now they can take all of our money for licenses, and spend it on utilities and energy crap instead of on the environment - where we want it to go. First the CT lawmakers try to double the fee for our licenses and put the money into the general fund instead of the environment. After the outdoorsman of our state made such a stink and fought it, the state says "Oh, nevermind" and gives us some of the money back. Now they are just lumping other agencies into the DEP so nobody can really know or complain about where our money for licenses goes. Gotta love Malloy! Evil or Very Mad

So, do you think that the DEEP will say the witness is unreliable?

Seriously though, do any of the hunters out there know whether you could legally kill a mountain lion in Connecticut, since they don't exist?
