So if you woke up tomorrow with a winning lottery ticket in your hand, what Connecticut lake would you like to buy a cottage on?

Hi,

NONE ! ....Like right where I am in Winsted !
Have comfortable energy efficient home.

(I'll take the money though to fish other waters around the world ! Razz )

I'm 20 minutes or less from the following:

Highland Lake
West Hill Pond
Colebrook Res.
Hogback Res.
Burr Pond
Winchester Lake
Park Pond
Stillwater
Farnington River
Wood Creek
Mad River

Few minutes more and I can get to:
Tyler
West Side
East and West Twin
Dog
Lakeville
Howell's
Otis
Blackbery River
Housatonic River
Plus many more local small streams and ponds (Some private I have permission to fish !)
Also easy trek to waters in Mass., Vt., and NY !

I live in fishing NIRVANA ! Thumbs Up

Ranger Rick,

I hate the taxes to but I don't think FL is for me.... but a visit or two in Jan and Feb would be OK...

I saw a 883 ac parcel of land in Maine with a 225 acre pond on the land...
It was about 400K.... That seems like a nice dream...

I'd buy a home base in a state with low taxes and rent wherever else I wanted to go. You have to spend six months plus a day in your domicile state. I could see myself spending most of the Winter on the Salt River impoundment in the mountains outside of Phoenix.

Taxes seem to be a theme here.... I'm 51 yrs old and I'm not sure I'll be able to retire and stay in CT. The property taxes are insane, I pay over 7K a year and the town has no services. No police, no paid fire, they barely plow the roads.

So I guess the right place would be low taxes and great fishing... LOL

The most likely reason you are paying so much is probably the schools there. I may be wrong because I am not that familiar with the NorthEast part of the state, but usually that's the case. I have a friend who lives in Hebron and he pays a ridiculous amount on taxes and he's in the same scenario as you. The reason there is because their schools are top of the line and also just recently rebuilt.

I'd Move quicker than a perch with a Pike after it! Arizona (tucson) or Vegas area.. a nice house boat on lake Mead? Heck Yea!!!!!! Although something on Candlewood Lake wouldn't be bad either, I'd come home to see family and friends and stay there!

Oneida Lake in NY!!! It has just about every freshwater fish there is, except for trout & salmon .But then the Salmon River is just about 45 minutes up the road from there.

Now depending on which lottery ticket it was I would look into Long Island, mainly because I love saltwater too, so the biggest decision would be... fish the L.I. Sound? Or on the other side, the Atlantic Ocean? I guess it would depend on what fish(s) I'd like to go after on that day.-LOL Wink

I would look into somewhere near the NC shoreline.

Get to surf fish for a whole variety of saltwater fish from bluefish and stripers to redfish and sea trout and have the backwater estuaries that hold some freshwater fish.

Very good point there Chomper! Idea

Now with that said; I've never been to Oregon or Washington State which offers some of the best both water(s) fishing as well. Shocked Shocked Shocked

Well still bieng relatively new here, I'd have to say a nice big place on Pocotopaug in East Hampton would be where I'd like to end up. We've really liked that area since moving here to Ct. As far as taxes go, without them you'd be complaing nobody is plowing your roads, the school systems suck etc. It's the way of life I guess. I'm from the one of the highest tax states in the country, so it's really no different to me.
