Why limit yourself to smallies?  Throw spinnerbaits over the weeds in The Gut and you'll catch northern pike, chain pickerel, pike/pickerel hybrids, largemouth bass and smallies.

 Oh, so you haven't been there, yet. The Gut is the area between North Hero and Grand Isle to the south. It's a very protected bay.
