I went out on beach pond yesterday and had about 4 inches. Couple guys were having luck with trout, but I couldn't get a thing to bite on the jig pole. Any one from the surrounding areas get out and check the ice today?

A guy came into my work today to weigh a nice four lb snake he got at Amos yesterday. He said certain spots had 2" of ice, but the coves had 6+.

Has anyone been on Bashan-

I have heard that there are warm springs on that lake that create thin ice...where are they?

Is it of concern right now or would I be good to go with an ATV?

I have never ice fished Bashan, only with a boat.

Leave the atv at home and walk out onto the ice. It's still early ice.

Go to Ct. DEEP web site and click on and follow the fishing threads.
You can also download and print out many lake maps from there, including Bashan.

Need directions ? .... Go to Map Quest !

Just about every question asked on this forum can be found else where on the interenet with a little research. I'd rather hear it from another ct fisherman. I hit beach pond again earlier. Tried the Finn Beach side and had pretty good luck catching 6 chunky little yellow perch. As I was leaving other groups were having decent luck with eyes but none over 15". Ice was around 6", but pretty thin towards the beach. Going to try and hit the R.I. side in the morning.

Hi,

Try setting 1 or 2 traps 4-12 ft. down over deep water with a medium shiner - you might luck out and hook into one of those stocked Salmon in Beach.

I have not tried it yet, but an old man told me he catches his salmon there using power bait down deep, and before he sets his tilt he put a pinch of salmon eggs in the hole. Anyone ever heard of using salmon eggs like this?

Hi,

Yeah! It's called chumming the hole !
Egg shells, dead minnows, scented oatmeal, etc.
Anything that will attract fish except for whole corn - fish cannot digest the kernels.

I've chummed before with chunked salted shiners, but never heard of doing it with salmon eggs. I'm going to try it tomorrow when I go out, I'll let you know if it improves my luck at all.

Fished lower Moodus this past week. Did ok...some 2-4 pounders, but a lot of perch, pickerel, and a few nice calico...esp. dawn/dusk. Heard I was late by a few days because it was really hot for a while. Some BIG fish coming out of there. My family has a place on lower moodus, and I was surprised as hell to see some of the pics I was shown.
