Hatch Pond
6am-330pm
Water Temp started at 56, ended 64.3

by far the weirdest day of fishing i have had in a while

got to the lake and launched to find clear water, an empty parking lot, and tons of grass and scum. the pads are just stating to come in and i thought i would have a good shot at a pig. fished shallow and flipped jigs into grass and a topwater frog, nada. first fish was a crappie on a small deep dunning crankbait. then nothing for an hour so i was getting annoyed and decided a re-evaluation was necessary. started jigging deeper water with laydowns and rock and got a couple of 1-2#. this started to suck....so i went bedfishing. probably 10 bass on fishstix 7" biggest being almost three#. most of the beds were empty and i was pretty sure that i was catching males because the weather pushed the girls off a bit. i kept picking off small males beacuse it was easy then got bored and started to look for the girls again. going back to a crank bait i got more small keepers. also fished a chiger craw t-rigged with a 3/4 oz weight and got more small bass and another close to 3. after all that, only having a dead trolling motor i wrapped it up at 330. didnt count but north of 20 fish, best five for 11# or so. now the weird part.

at one point i hear a bang at the bottom of the boat, and i look as a snapping turtle picked the wrong spot to surface.
i was almost killed by an over protective swan twice, saw some large bird attack a squirrel and finally, watched to snappers' do the dirty deed in the area i was fishing...have pics post later...no pics of fish...wasn't really anything great but i did get to break in my new Fenwick rod which is sweet... The Elite techs are awesome.
it was a good but strange day

bout a year....i have kept both largies and smallies, the smallies are usually more active, they swim alot more and like the current that the filters make. they make awesome pets and they are pretty smart. they are easy to keep, they just make a mess when they eat

yea among the stink, scum and tons of little fish with relatively no cover, there are some really big bass in there. i have caught 4 bass over 5 from there and two were over 6.... that being said its a tough place to fish and i havent been there in a while...those fish are few and FAR between.
