Headed out for my maiden voyage on my little Boston Whaler today, and made for Green's Ledge. Got out at about 10am, and set out some chum and bunker chunks. The second my first chunk hit the bottom somethin grabbed it, turned out to be a little shark.

I have no depth finder, so I was relying on an app for my Droid phone that gives you your GPS location on a NOAA chart so I could have some idea of what the bottom looked like. Actually worked pretty well, and after a couple more little sharks and plenty of sea robins, I moved a little further out.

No hits, no nothin, and then it started pouring. After about 30 minutes in the rain I decided to head back in. Pulled my last line up and got a pretty decent sized shark that put up a hell of a fight.

No stripers, no fluke, no blues, but I gotta tell ya that I was just psyched to have somethin on the end of my line. Good day.

Congrats on the maiden voyage.

Glad it was a success and something took your baits. A bend in the rod is always a good thing!

Congratulations!!!

You didn't get skunked is great news for the first trip out. Just get to know the area(s) better and you'll be catching keepers of all kind!

Keep this in mind..A quote from "The Perfect Storm"

Captain Billy Tyne: I always find the fish, always! And I will this time.

Now that's what I do. Because finding them and catching them are 2 different things.

Good Luck and don't be afraid to ask questions.

JC

Thanks for the report. I picked up a small boat for fishing the Norwalk Islands and am feeling my way around. Going out tomorrow AM. Will try for bunker, then stripers. If that doesn't work, then I plan to drift for fluke.

I've been studying my charts. There's lots of fishy looking areas, but it's gonna take time. I'll report back.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna be heading out tomorrow AM for the Norwalk Islands. If you're looking to snag some bunker, greens ledge early in the morning is the place. They were jumping everywhere early in the morning.

Also, the Cable and Anchor reef southeast of Green's Ledge has supposedly been producing blues and stripers.

I believe so. Fun to fight with light tackle.

Launched in Norwalk at 6am. Tides are still extreme. I spent too much time in the harbor trying to snag bunker. By the time I got out to the islands, the stripers and bunker schools had disappeared. Tried T&W but had no action. Got a short fluke.

I ran into a guy who found the bass under the bunker schools and caught a couple nice ones.

Norwalk is new to me so it's going to take time. Thanks for any advice or tips.

Where are you launching from? Calf Pasture beach or Vets park? If you're goin by vets park, head over to Fisherman World. They have the nicest guys there and almost always have some nice fresh bunker. I usually grab one or two before I head out, just in case the bunker out in the sound are too frisky. Also, they have daily fishing reports and would be happy to tell ya where to go.
