Saturday night I checked out the local buoy to see how much warmer the water had gotten. Saw the surface temp had risen 2 degrees to 36 compared to last time I was out there. Low tide was scheduled for 11:39am and set my alarm for noon. Arrived at the discharge around 1:45pm with my waders and the F&S Inferno/Fierce 2000/Spiderwire Stealth 10 lb setup.
First started out on the sandbar while the tide was still low enough. Water felt like the lower 40s. Lures I played with included shiner Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, glass ghost Clackin Minnow CNM-11, yellow perch Jointed Shallow Shad Rap JSSR-7, pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-10, shad Skitter Pop SP-9, spotted minnow Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, and flake blue Max Rap MXR-13.
Tried doing some jerk and pause retrieves with the CNM-11 and SXR-10 but never got into anything.
Later once the tide was too high to be out on the sandbar I tried casting a 4" chartreuse Bomber soft plastic rigged on a 1 ounce Hurricane jighead into the main discharge area but never got a single tap.
Played with the SXR-10, MXR-13, and FLR-10 a bit more before calling it a day just before 4:30pm.
Saw a fisherman throwing whole squid on the bottom and a group of 3 throwing small 3" sandworms but all of them never got a single hit.
Seems like I'm gonna have to wait til the harbor starts reaching the 40s and the discharge area gets into the upper 40s. Haven't been seeing any action recently. |
