Got out to do 24hrs in the canyon with Capt. Mark and the crew of the Canyon Runner out of Pt. Pleasant, NJ. Took the big boat out (60ft) which is the sweetest of rides. We left in 10 ft seas crusing at 30 knots and never backed off until we hit the 96 mile mark...boat just flys

Anyway, we had no luck inshore for bluefins(did see a huge pod of porposes though)...got up on the troll in Hudson and hit a small yellowfin and a skipjack that became shark bait. No more action until dark when we started too chunk for swords and shark...hit a school of Mahi on the 100 square and nabbed 13 of em...then, hooked into a big sword that came off...another we landed went 150lbs and one that went 90 lbs.....finished the early morning with a big longfin tuna, 2 decent yellowtails in the 60lb class and lost a bigger tuna (90 lbs or so) to the gaff

All in all, great fishing with the crew of the CR...I recommend it to anyone looking to do a serious offshore canyon trip...Pics are coming, need to get them..

B

Nice job. Canyon Runner always seems to find the fish. Looks like you will be eating well for a while.

Thanks guys....freezer is well stocked now...

The crew was a bit antsy until we boated the bigger sword...then all was well....Those guys on the CR are serious fishermen....we fought the big sword tied off and he circled the boat 7 times...each time the mates were on the bow, in the dark, looping around anchor lines and such...they worked way harder for that fish than we did....Would have been no problem if we could have backed down on it

If you have never cought a sword, the fight is worth the price of admission alone.....
Pic is up above

Sweet Sword Brennan, I have 1 taxidermied hanging in my parents cottage on the wall facing the water over the double sliding glass doors. I caught her in Mazatlan Mexico about 15 years ago. She was 11.5 feet long and about 425lbs. I fought her for about 2.5 hours, and she dove/ran on me 6 times before we boated her. What a day! One I'll never forget, or the price tag to have it done up by a taxidermist in Fla.

Great stuff, Brennan. I missed the original post I guess. Nice to see you've got a sponsor, too.
