Low tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 2:38pm Monday and decided to hit the last of the outgoing and then the incoming and stay til after dark. Arrived at the sandbar around 2:15pm. Setup was a 7' medium power Okuma Tarvos/Penn Pursuit 3000/10 pound Sufix Tritanium Plus.

Lures I threw included flake blue Max Rap MXR-13, olive green Clackin Minnow CNM-9, original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-10, shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, glass ghost Clackin Minnow CNM-11, blue sardine Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, bleeding pearl Jointed J-11, shad Long Cast Minnow LC-10, and chrome Skitter Pop SP-9.

I had already casted with most lures before switching over to the SP-9. On the second cast with the SP-9 I see a swirl behind it and pretty soon a loud splash and huge explosion. The fish took 3 short runs. Thought I had a striper right around keeper size. Landed a tailor blue. First topwater bluefish of the year and first tailor since early June.

Tide was still coming in and as it got higher I made my way to the sandy flats. Threw the MXR-13, FLR-10, SP-9, and J-11 with no luck.

Next I went over to the discharge. No action there until it was after dark. Landed 2 schoolies up to a chunky 16"er both with the SXR-10. Both fish seemed to be part of a school that came by for a short period.

Once I got no more bites after catching the second schoolie, I hit the road around 7:45pm cause I was also hungry.

The explosion by the blue, fighting it on a schoolie setup, and landing it had me pumped and hoping for an evening bite. SO HAPPY to FINALLY catch another tailor and that it was topwater!

Found what was either a mid sized bunker or small porgy in the blue's stomach.

Measured 23" and weighed a perfect 4 pounds after being dead for 4 to 5 hours.

Really Michael. I've been getting at least 1 blue every time I go fishing and that's about 4 times a week at minimum! Bummer you've been missing them but I'm willing to bet if you threw something bigger they might be enticed to go for it a little more.

Went back today for the dead low and incoming. Stayed til 7:30pm.

Threw topwaters and plugs but not even a hit.

Local surfcasting buddy met me there with his 8 footer and bigger topwaters, including a bunker pattern popper and a Cotton Cordell pencil popper. Even by throwing an SP Minnow he had no luck.
