Just out of curiosity, what's the farthest you river rats have caught a bass down the river? I was in Deep River today, and some douche asked me what I was fishing for. I replied "Bass". He then says, "Ohhh STRIPAHS!" I turn around and say "No, largemouth and smallmouth". He furrows his brow. To make a long story short... he told me that I haven't caught pike in the river, and that they're pickerel. What an ignorant piece of s***. I wish I could've pulled something out of there and slapped him across the face with it.

Some people have no clue, next time tell him you are going for porgies under the bridge tomorrow, and you will meet him there at 4pm, have him buy the beer and bait, then don't show up and leave him hanging.

P.DONA he did infact have teeth. He was some yuppie drinking wine with his ugly wife Those as well are my farthest I've caught them as well.
Tralli, I grew up in Essex, I have a pretty good idea of where you might have got them, but I won't blow up your spot. But I will ask you this, is there a small tributary flowing into the spot?

Hamburg cove has plenty of bass,...during the BFL All American tourney a few years ago, many of the pros took a shot in there.
Further down, the large flat in the back of essex marina looks fishy especially along the channel and back where the stream flows in,.., but I've not caught much there except for a few small bluefish! I wouldn't be surprised if J&J could pull some bass out,..just saying that it's not been great for a normal fisherman like me!
ps: You gotta really stick to the channel which is marked by white sticks though,..because it is extremely shallow up on the flat with the occasional large rock thrown in! (How do I know this?!!  )

Yeah, i've caught perch, but thats not uncommon in brackish water
