After talking about the Farmington River so much, yesterday, I had to paddle it, today. So I drove up to Windsor and launched in El Habañero at the boat launch ramp on Pleasant Road behind Bart's at 9:15 am:
The air was cold and it was windy, but I enjoyed full sun. The water was probably near its normal level and was only slightly murky. I didn't see much in the water, but the blowing wind didn't help with that. Of course, it blew downriver as I paddled upriver. I paddled more than fished. I went upriver to where Route 91 crosses the river:
I trolled a white 3/8 ounce Strike King Redeye spinnerbait upriver and a silver Rapala Shallow Shad Rap SSR7 downriver. I didn't get any bites or see any fish. At all. But I had a really nice, if cold and blustery, paddle. When I got off of the river at 1:15 pm, two trailered boats showed up and several fishermen started to gather in the parking lot by the ramp. Hopefully, a fisherman who was there after I will post a report. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!

Hey Phil, looks like another good spot though. Is there a boat launch or just cartop? |

HIla,
there is a boat launch but that area of fhe farmington is real shallow. You're better off launching in the CT river and going up as far as you can in the farmington.....when I was a kid we had a small bass boat (skeeter f-80 strada) and we did that quite a bit.

John - There's a trailerable boat ramp.
Mark - The water level was high enough for boats to head up or down the river from the launch. I've been there when the water level was so low that you wouldn't have been able to get past either the railroad bridge upriver or the Route 159 bridge downriver. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
