I dont fly fish much and want to go to the farmington river with a spinning rod. Where are some good pools where you can spin fish i would love detailed direction ( roads, access points etc)?
I love trout fishing and never fished the farmy but i need deep pools where i can drift bait and pull trout out all day?
PLease please help me i want to go so badly because it is one of the only trout rivers that the trout bite in the summer? |

Hi,
Go to the DEEP web site and look for the Trout stocking maps.
There are 6 maps for the Farmington River + locations and accesses.
Spinning gear is allowed on the Farmington River.
Read though the Ct. Angler's Guide 1st as there are TMA areas where only barbless hooks are allowed.
Also read the latest fishing report (June 21)

Hello! I fly fished there and found fishing there to be very very good. I believe when we went we went to sleeping giant state park/forest. Its only a 2 minute walk across a little field and woods and youre at the river. You will want waders here because the river is easier to fish with them. When i was there in march i think there were alot of fish breaking the surface and jumping. Also people all around me were catching fish. The flys we used were very very small and were in the fastest moving water. Im sure the mealworms and corn will do well but it took me some time to learn the the spots. All the fish were behind large rocks and trees in medium moving water and the fish we caught were in the faster moving water. Heres a video of the fish we caught http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTYXnBBpn4o&feature=plcp . I think that anywhere on this river is a great place to fish so goodluck on your trip!!! _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

it's all trial and error, I've fished the farmington in Pequonock (windsor) found some pools there but no luck, I've fished by the gorge in tariffville (east granby), seemed like a nice area, I think I caught a small smallmouth there once but that area above the dam seems like it would hold fish, lots of pools. I've fished the farmington up by pleasant valley, you can drive all the way down to the handi-cap area, I caught a nice smallmouth there once a couple of years ago using a small crawfish type crankbait. I fished the farmington near simsbury earlier this year and that area seemed like it would produce a lot.
You are looking for the ONE answer for the farmington river and there isn't ONE answer. Do you have a canoe or small boat or kayak? Launch at barts in windsor and go to the Ct River... good sections there. it's all trial and error and Luck and a little bit of know how....it's not rocket science.
I hope this helped a bit. Sorry, I don't use corn or meal worms but I would think in a nice pool any type of live bait (worms, minnows) would work well. Just get out there and try it and enjoy what the FArmington can offer.! |

there is a foot bridge goes across the river in Collinsville downstream just past the dam in the center of town. a little side street goes to the west end of the footbridge rock street? river street? something like that. there a place on the street to park a car or three and the local residents are pleasant. anyways... right there you can get down to the river where there are some serious pools. Deep enough and cold and fast to hold fish year round, big fish. from there down for around a mile or so are a few more deep pools. they are hard to access and hard to fish. if you gear up heavy enough to put some live bait down deep into these pools you should find some fish. i have caught a few on spinners and spoons as well. A guy who lives across the street uses medium to large Kastmasters to get down deep into the pool under the bridge. He claims to be able to pull trout out of there year round and had no reason to lie to me. Good luck! |

i have seen the occasional kayaker or canoer fishing (or floating by with a fishing pole) downstream from there but nothing that would spook a fish. most of this is done above the dam or past the next dam. it is a short stretch between two dams i believe. Rock Street is the name of the street. you can park on the side opposite the river. |
