A heated discussion is sometimes a good thing and won't change my opinion of you. I know you are a strong willed person from your posts and believe me that is a good quality. I think it is good to get these discussions out in the open.

Yes out of staters use our hunting and fishing resources and we use theirs...but we all pay for out of state licenses to do so. The difference is that when I go fishing at a pond in MA I don't kick everyone else off the pond so I can go fishing. I guess what I'm saying is there should be more compromise. There are 2 ponds at WMA and the lower pond is much better suited to the dog trials. Would it be too much to ask for them to only use 1 of the 2 ponds there? I think not. If I held a fishing tourney there nearly every fishable weekend I'm sure the dog folks wouldn't be very happy about it either. I am all for sportsmen practicing their sport and using the resources but when it impedes on others it is not cool. I have to say that the folks yesterday were not rude at all and just let me know that the trials were starting soon and we couldn't stay.

If you read the schedule you will see it is not only a couple of months. The schedule runs from March to November and most if not all of the dates are weekends. 26 weekends to be exact. The cold months of Dec, Jan and Feb take up another 13 weekends that I can't get my kayak out there. That leaves only 13 weekends in between on the other months that it is usable for other sportsmen. I may need to do some ice fishing there in order to make up for it Smile

Of course WMA is open for hunting (which again I think is a good thing) I'll just have to ice fish on Sundays when they can't hunt.

The Reservoir was a pretty good place to fish several months ago, but it has a very dedicated poaching community for a place so small. Unfortunately, there are a few pretty talented fishermen who poach there, and that makes things a bit worse than your typical "throw a worm out and let it sit there" bucket brigade (which also makes a regular appearance).

If you get there early in the year, before so many find the bucket, it can be a fantastic place to take a kid fishing for the first time, because of a large population of small and stupid fish.

I've gone there probably 40ish times this year from May - October and only caught three fish bigger than your lunker. I was fishing from shore, but that's still not that great a sign for decent fish. They're probably in there, but if someone like you doesn't catch them each time, they won't be in there for long.

Really, if poaching bothers you, it's a great place to get royally pissed off.

I pedaled around the reservoir a couple of times and never found any deep holes or schools of fish. It was strangely uniform in depth; I saw eight feet in only one spot. And it was a lot colder than I expected, in the low 50s, already! Shocked

There was also no structure and very little cover on the bottom. I think that larger ambush predators would have a hard time in there. It is, however, a scenic pedal or paddle.

That place has the ability to produce some decent fish. I've caught them Smile

Years ago, people used to talk about bringing out some very nice fish from there regularly.

Of course I'm defining decent fish as in the 1 to 4lb range. There's plenty of structure and food for those types. Mr. Beaver takes care of that. Also, for most of the summer there are some nice weed beds going on.

You'd be surprised at how many places that don't fit "the mold" produce nice fish.

Wow I think I'll keep my opinion out of this one. I went to th Farmington Res. Saturday to do a little scouting for Derek, Phil and myselfs early trip on Sunday. I was only able to fish for about 2-1/2 hours. 3:40pm to around 6:00pm. Caught 5 fish in that time. All going 11"-13-1/2" range. All caught on Wacky Senks Blk w/ Blu Flake. I only targeted spots that still had Sun hitting them. I think there mite be 1 or 2 in there that our over 2lbs. had one fish pick up my bait and swim under my Kayak, could not get a good hook set but it felt like it had a bit of weight. When we went out with Dawg and Phil, they had both mentioned to me about being nuts, crazy or something to that effect, for wearing shorts out Sunday morning. It was only 40 Degrees when I left my house. I won't surrender the till it's 35 out when I leave.
