Headed out to CT river launch saturday in hopes of a good day. Though this year I think that is pretty hard to do if you only go out once or twice a week. Hit up hatchetts around 8 but nothing happening there except a few porgies. Had to decide to hit plum or race after and we chose plum gut. Thought there would be a lot of boats out there but not many and 0 party boats. Not a good sign. Nott much there but snags and lost jigs and line. Saw some birds working on the south side of island so we headed over there. Lots of fish marked. My brother got the first blue on a ball jig. Of course just the little runt tailors. Got one or two more that way then fish were more scattered so we trolled t&w and got 1 or 2 there. I tried some mackeral and had a run or two but that was about it. Not many really hitting the surface all further down. Birds went away and so did we to find a new area. Went east along the island and to the end and found more birds working all over. Again most fish were deeper and not enough on top for any topwater action. Just trolled around and got a few more tailors, but deadly dick seemed to be the favorite. Ended the day with 8 or 9. Did manage to salvage the day and was ok, but certainly expected more especially for this time of year. Where are all the big blues? Perhaps the race was the spot saturday.
