dooley 8/8:
my son needed to catch 2 different types of fish for his boy scout merit badge so i figure i hit a small pond on my boat (no kayaks) with a relatively clean shoreline and not too much weeds. unfortunately, 1.5 hours (6:30-8am) of fishing with a salamander and other creature baits didn't produce... i was able to pick up 2 on a jig.

pickeral 8/9:
fished 6:30-9am and picked up 4 on sluggo's and jigs all off the shoreline. thought i was going to do better with cloud cover, relatively full moon, slight breeze and the impending weather (which never showed up). probably spent a good 1/2 hour pulling the weeds off my trolling motor! boy those stringy weeds are brutal!

Did the badge require the use of artificial bait? On a small pond I'd rig him up some worms and have him go to town otherwise.

Have him throw small inline spinners or small worms t-rigged. Swimming a small grub on jig head would have given him a good shot at them too.

dooley is a tough pond, i never had much luck there. I did catch a huge snapper turtle there by accident.

Dooley has some of the best complex wood ive ever seen. Over abundance of stunted 12inchers but I got two 5's and a few 3's last summer/fall. Most of the good wood is in 6-9fow. Visible in winter when the algae is done.

Just a matter of wading through the rats bass addict.

I put in a dozen and ahalf 2-6hour trips there last year for a half dozen fish over 2 pounds.

I almost caught a "body" there! Shocked Long story short, was there one day years ago, fished the hell out of that place hitting every nook and cranny there. Next morning saw on the news about the State Police pulling a body out of there with a single gunshot to the back of the head. Mob hit they said. Man I hoped that body was put there after I left because the thought of me being there and just floating over it and not seeing it really creeped me out.
