Before the ice started forming, I was fishing from the pier at Squantz on the evening of 1/7.

Casted a size 4 Rapala Jointed Shad Rap out from there and caught a perch and 14" 1 1/2 pound brown. That was the evening bite before sunset.

Walleye then moved in and you could hear some splashing sounds on the surface at night. Only got 1 short walleye on a medium shiner.

Try the pond in front of the elderly homes near rogers park school.
By try I mean check the ice it might be safe.

Caught some bass there last year.

Go out from the parking area toward the middle

It's a good read. Wink

Great! Thanks for the response. If we get any more nice days before the 1st I'll sure be tempted to go out on the kayak.

Guess what bro, YOU are going to find out if they are lol!!

Try both sides and let me know

Try the little bridge area WALK all of the way around from the small white sand beach around the rocks to the corner

THEN go to the recreation beach and walk all of the way around that lol

Try green / white senko OR red/black
Small rattle trap
Jerkbait
spinner bait
shad colored swimbait if you have one

if u buy spikes aka maggots try them like I did with a bobber and some sort of flashing lure

IF YOU DO go let me know how you make out =)

Laughing LOL I suppose its my turn! I will get out there at some point this week (with Advent probably) and see what bites. I always use mealworms on my lures and at kenosia the fish love day old dead nightcrawlers. Shhh.. The catfish there go nuts for the crawlers though... Wink

So I was thinking of the post, and was wondering what the 3 week basically, closed fishing time is for? To protect spawing fish?

I don't really know why they close some lakes for just a few weeks each year. I'm pretty sure that it doesn't have anything to do with the largemouth bass spawn, because that occurs much later in the year than the closures. Perhaps to give new stockies time to acclimate and move away from wherever they were dumped into the lake? Are there any fisheries guys out there?
