I know a spot that has a pumpkinseed that is either close to or is the record for the state (1.3lbs). If i catch this fish what do i need to do if it is actually a record for the state? Im buying a digital scale sometime this week btw. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

Bring it to a certified place that has a scale like a bait shop or deli. Get a printout, get a good picture of you with the fish as well at the spot. Fill out the form and have a witness sign it that was there. I think that's it? Check the DEP's website there is a little more information. Certified weight and picture are the most important. Just to be safe I would take several pics of it measured, weighed, etc. _________________ Steve |

That's one of the oldest records in the book! I love how aggressive pumpkinseeds are compared to bluegills their own size.
Good luck on the new record! |

You can definitely do it without killing it. Get an aerated bucket to keep it alive...they are always good to have anyways if you don't have one. _________________ Steve |

I dont think you can get officially get a state record AND release the fish. You can get a certificate acknowledging your catch but Im pretty sure I read that C&R cannot qualify for state records. |

That's what I thought originally, but you can release it. Check out the DEP fishing report on 5/6/12 (link below). A new state record carp was caught this year AND released.

It does contradict what the angler's guide says, but if the DEP is publishing the fishing report and acknowledging a state record at the same time - they must be honoring it. _________________ Steve |

The state record catfish was also caught and released, although it died the next day _________________ PB's:

Still searching for some toothy critters big enough to be worth weighing... |
