NWDarkcloud (aka Bob) and I fished Wethersfield Cove after learning from PikePERSUADER1 (aka Dan) that Wethersfield is done charging boats to launch in the cove for the season. We launched Bob's boat, The Way More Better, at the ramp next to the floating dock in the glaring morning sun:

Variable winds blew almost the entire day, but mostly at five to 15 miles per hour from the west. Although we definitely appreciated the warmth from the sun, the bluebird sky didn't help the bite. The water temperature was 57 degrees and the water was murky. We could see down less than two feet, even when the surface of the water was calm and in the full sun:

Immediately after we launched, we headed across the cove to get alee of the west shore and out of the wind. We grounded the hull of The Way More Better in less than a foot of water about 50 yards south of the little island while Bob rigged up his setups. I threw a wacky rigged green pumpkin/red flake five inch Senko at a little peninsula in slightly deeper water and it was picked up off of the bottom by a 1-1/2 to two pound largemouth bass. I played it a bit and reeled it in slowly. When I pulled it from the water next to the boat, it shook itself free of the hook. Confused Unfortunately, the quick bite didn't mean anything, because the bite was extremely slow all day. More than an hour passed before Bob boated the first fish:

The largemouth bass picked up a wacky rigged Senko off of the bottom. We worked our way clockwise around the cove, down the channel to the Connecticut River, back up the channel into the cove, across the cove to the west shore, and counterclockwise around the cove for 2-1/2 hours before a short largemouth bass picked up my wacky Senko off of the bottom in eight feet of water:

We didn't get anything else for a long time after that. When the sun began to get lower in the sky, the water began to drop in the cove with the tide:

At dusk, I tied on a black Strike King Midnight Special spinnerbait. When Bob asked, "Why are you tying THAT on?", I said, "Well, Kira (aka TurtleKiss) would throw it." Sure enough, I got a hit while slow rolling it along the bottom and boated what was, unfortunately, the lunker largemouth bass:

Although I got another bite on the Midnight Special almost immediately after that, the largemouth bass somehow spit the hook while it was still 10 feet away from the boat. We didn't get any more hits as darkness continued to fall and got off of the water in the dark at 6:45 pm. Although the fishing was slow, I never regret spending a cool, sunny day out of the water. Thanks, Bob!

Yeap, I had never seen a blue heron chase a lure like that before. It really, really wanted my shiny, flashy spinnerbait.

No, Michael, I never broke out any crankbaits. I should have, though. I was a little bit tired and lazy that day. I really didn't wake up until Bob and I stopped for dinner on the way home. The anticuchos and ceviche at La Kerencya in Hartford were outstanding.

The wind is always blowing at Wethersfield Cove. At least you were out on a nice day.
