Time: 10AM-5:30PM
Air Temp: 58-68 degrees
Water Temp 58-61 degrees
Wind: 10-30 (with a couple gusts that were pretty impressive and pushing 40)
Clarity: Varied, but mostly stained. Pea green in places with some areas that had clear water with 3 feet of visibility.

Phil joined me on what was beautiful day to be on Candlewood. Launched out of Squantz cove. Can't beat wearing shorts on October 28th. It was windy as hell, so we were fighting that all day. We started off in the Northeast part of the lake fishing shallow. I'll let Phil chime in with his knack for detail, but we threw a bunch of stuff. Swimbaits, jigs, stickbaits, beavers, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, poppers. and more. Working the bank, various points, rocks, ledges etc. The action was slow. Not even much in terms of nibbles. Everything was slime-covered, and both of us were surprised how thick the weeds still are up there. Up by Gerards where the rocks on the bank drop straight down to 14-16 FOW, I landed a 1-10 smallie that turned out to be the only fish of the day. Caught in on a Strike King caffeine shad in white with silver flake. 12-pound flouro with a 4/0 hook fished like a senko but with a couple jerks here and there. Pretty fish, decent fight for its size. Just wish we had found more of them. We ran around trying different spots including some deeper areas (20 Feet or so) with cranks and jigs The bite just seemed nonexistent. There were only four or five boats out there fishing and one that returned at the same time we did had the same report: 1 fish, too much slime. Oh well, we'll try again. The weather was nice and the company was great. Good to be out there.

I finally remembered to bring my camera into the house, so I'll post some photos, soon.

Here's my short report. Jed and I got the two big "Ws"; wind and weed. There was green slime weed almost everywhere we went on the lake. Candlewood is a pretty lake, though.

Here's Jed's 16 inch, one pound, 10 ounce smallie:

It was a pretty fish, with leopard spots along its back and rays on its face.

And, no, I didn't blur out the background to protect our secret spot! Very Happy It's spelled "Gerard's".
