I know one should not use more than two rods when fishing. But Can I take three rods when I kayak on the lake, or I can only take two?

You can take 10...as long as you can fit them lol..Kidding aside there's no regulations on how many you carry, it's how many you use.

Well, to clarify what Steve said, it's how many lines you have in the water at one time:
Quote:
26-112-43. Definitions and restrictions
(a) "Angling" means fishing with hook and line which shall be personally attended, but shall not include ice fishing or snagging or snatching. Not more than two lines, with or without rods, may be used at one time. Each line may have any combination of hooks, flies or lures, among which not more than three hooks may be baited
.
Although a lot of kayak fishermen bring more than two setups with them, I think it's best if you could get by with only two. I've seen guys head out with three and come back in with only two. Less is more, sometimes.

Thanks for all your replies, I'll try to bring three back instead of two.lol

Im thinking about using one rod for trolling, and another two for casting, so that I always have two rigs to choose on hand.

A poll would be good. First time out in my Kayak in the CT river with my neighbors took three poles out one being brand new and fell in the river. Lost the new pole or course.

Hi,

Had the same thing happen to me with a new pole + reel.

Now I have my 2 boat spinning rods rigged with quick release lanyards I deviced.
Saved my rods from going over a couple of times.

I would definitely only take two, I flipped my yak trying to stand up to get on shore and not get my feet wet, ended up flipping in 4 feet of water, and getting more than just my feet wet Sad , lost a lot of tackle since it was dark and the water was muddy brown

For all those fearing losing rods, if we can have paddle leash, who not tie a rod leash to your rod, I will do this next time. I don't have expensive rods, but I hate losing them=.=

BTW, if the lake is about 10 ft deep, does anyone have a advice of trolling set up?

I am new to fishing so I have tons of questions!!!

Well, you should use rod holders. I like having two Scotty rod holders in front of me, with one on either side of the kayak. Tie on a Rapala Shad Rap or Shallow Shad Rap and cruise along at 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 miles per hour. Keep the rod tips up and out. If a rod stops vibrating, the lure is fouled.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try them out!
