I fished Burr Pond from 9:30 am to 3:15 pm. Seadog1 (aka Stephen) joined me sometime before noon. We found five to seven inches of ice everywhere. It was sunny and just a little bit breezy. There was a lot of water and slush on top of the ice. Unfortunately, the fishing was slow all day. We didn't set any traps. All told, I jigged up eight sunnies, the biggest of which was only eight inches long, six chain pickerel that were all about a foot long and four yellow perch, the biggest two of which were 10 inches long. Stephen pulled a 10 inch yellow perch, a foot long chain pickerel and an 11 inch largemouth bass out of one hole within a span of 15 minutes. After that, though, I think that he ended up getting only four small sunnies. As slow as the bite was all day, it died completely when the sun disappeared behind the clouds at 2:45 pm. Here are some photos from the day:

Nope, none yet, although I jigged up a couple of eight inch yellow perch today. I'll get one tomorrow. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Hey Phil, finally enough ice eh? Gonna have to check my lake this weekend, haven't seen any tracks yet so far. Where is Burr Pond? I haven't seen anyone out yet near us in Wolcott. Nothing wrong with a day of jigging up pan fish Phil. |

Burr Pond is just off of Route 8 in the northeast corner of Torrington. It's an old mill pond that was used to power Gail Borden's first condensed milk factory.
Lemme know when Scoville has more than four inches of clear ice, John. Kira and I were talking about heading down there a couple of days ago. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
