So it had been a while since I went trout fishing and I had the itch. So I called up a buddy of mine and got a hold of Turtle Kiss.
I was unsure about trying to fish the Salmon River or the Farmington River due to the high volume of water flowing. I didn't want to lose footing while wading and end up 300 yards away face down.
So I decide to try some new territory I had never fished before. I pass by Roaring Brook in Stafford on my way to the Stafford Fish and Game club each month. I have seen a few fishermen there in the past so I figured since it is a small brook, the water shouldn't be moving that fast. I looked the brook up in the Angler's Guide and saw that it is know for brookies (A huge disappointment for Turtlekiss since the fish are not 3lb, and you really can not use a 7 foot med heavy rod with a bait caster to catch them).
So we get to the brook at around 7am and both Turtlekiss and my buddy want to fish it, while I was more interested and looking for the Willimantic River. Since I was out voted we decide to give it a try. I start fishing and I lose a fish on my first cast to my brittle line snapping. (Note to self: do not leave 4lb test line in a hot shed all summer).
I get a call from my buddy via the walkie talkie that he caught a small trout. A few minutes later I catch a 10 inch Dace. Soon after I get another very small dace. Meanwhile, Tutlekiss is fishing next to me with 40lb test line a 16 ounce weight, a large swivel, and a lure that looked like she was fishing for a world record stripped bass .
Well after a couple of hours my buddy and I had caught some small brookies, some dace and even some 2-3 inch bluegills. I even caught about an 11 inch rainbow that had beautiful colors. I could tell Turtlekiss was eager to catch a fish and so I DEMANDED that she give me her rod and let me change out her hook and gear. She reluctantly does and proceeds to use my rod and get snagged.
I switched her shark hook out with a size 12 green mosquito hook. I then proceeded to catch a brookie with her rod just to add a little salt on her wound. I think I got the bad mojo off her rod as she later caught a fish on it.
After about 3.5 hours of fishing we decided to pack it in and head to the shooting range. I had brought my new Ruger 10/22 and my old Sears and Roebuck 22 rifle along with my S&W 9mm. We set up some targets and started painting lead. Another club member at the range had brought his 44 magnum revolver with scope. He was nice enough to let each of us take a couple of shots with it. I thought the kickback might scare Turtlekiss, but she handled the piece with no problem.
Gentlemen, be for warned : Turtlekiss is very comfortable around guns and she is an EXCELLENT shot at 75 yards with a 22 rifle. She was plinking a 2 inch target consistently and she also did just fine with the 44 magnum and 9mm.
It was a great day all around with great company! _________________ I'd rather be fishing, than sitting here in front of this computer,,,

Sounds like a fun day! I was thinking the same thing as JPell333...thought someone caught you fishing on their property or something. |

Trout fishing has nothing to do with the trout for me. As long as I catch something, I'm content. Just happy to be in/on/around some water. And it was 12 lb. test, dammit!
I better be at least somewhat accurate with guns from all the Call of Duty I've played. If you want to be really impressed, bring along a noob tube next time.
Fun times as always, Rob. Thanks again. _________________ Kira

Haha, yeah it's cheap. I know. Give me a noob tube with One Man Army Pro and some Claymores and I'm a force to be reckoned with. I prefer MW2 but also have CoD4, WaW & Black Ops. _________________ Kira
