Headed down to stratford this past weekend for some fishing, and found out the bluefish tournament was going on. I dont have a boat, so I ended up chunking mackerel from my kayak off lordship. Didnt catch anything worthy of reporting for the bluefish tournament, but i did catch several blues, the biggest being 7 pounds, and more sea robins than i could keep track of. Mostly fished the outgoing tide.

Funny you say that. I was in the contest also and the biggest I hit was an 8 lb'er and funny thing is I just started salt water fishing this year and Ive been fishing very hard and never hit a Searobin except for this weekend but caught 6 of them this weekend!

Hi ff and jonny!
Hope you guys chopped off the heads off those searobins and kept the tails!
They're some of the sweetest, flakiest, and flavorful fish you can eat. (Yum!)
My uncle loved to catch a mess of them (I did too) and we had some great fish frys

| Fishfinder, what have u been using primarily for bait where you've never hit a sea robin til now? they are literally everywhere, and I have been throwing fishfinder rigs with chunk bait for the most part. Seadog, i have heard how good the sea robin flesh is, and im aware of the garbage fish tourney they hold down in long beach island, NJ where sea robins, dogfish and pufferfish are weighed in for prizes. however, I have yet to actually try some myself. I will be getting to that soon because I have been catching tons of 3+ pound sea robins where I could get decent sized fillets. |

Hi jonny!
No! Just pull the skin down off of tails (like you do catfish) -> Then flour, (dip thru sweet vermouth), batter, and pan fry them.
That's the way my uncle use to do them -> Loose less meat that way then filleting them!

I mainly throw Mackerel but sometimes Ill grab Bunker and Squid also just to see what they are hitting but find mackerel to work the best for me every time.

Learn something new every day they say!! I had absolutely NO idea that a Sea Robin could be edible!!
Thanks Sea Dog, I'll have to give it a try. Also, I could enjoy some sweet revenge on the little bait stealers  |

They have pretty much left every area that I fish in. Ive been trying to get some to live line for Blues.

| It's starting to be a little late for snappers, but just try local creeks and harbors. Today I saw a small amount blitzing near a tiny jetty. |

along with vert short striped bass
in stratford
