I go out on the Blackhawk a couple of times each year, usually for night bass. They have a terrific crew, very helpful. Captain gregg shouts a bit, but it keeps things interesting. He works like hell to keep on the fish. the boat is on the smaller side, so weekends with knuckleheads could be a nightmare. |

I'm sorry I just cant see paying to go on a party boat, and then paying for your rigs, it's worth it to just get a group of 3-5 guys and going out on a private charter, just my $.02. |

I agree with the bass man id rather spend the roughly $120 to go on a 6 guy charter with buddies then be involved in a fiasco with a big crowd and tangles and headaches. |

If you are looking for a small charter contact Dave Wurtz of Slomotion charters - slomotioncharters@yahoo.com
Dave is a great guy who is just starting out charter fishing from my town and does a good job getting you on fish and having fun.
There are many good boats out there that will work hard for you.
Here is a link for CT charter boarts: http://ctsportfishing.com/ _________________ “Don't tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don't tell them where they know the fish.” Mark Twain

And what's wrong with that I ask?
Party boats aren't always full of "undesirables" and sometimes they are.
I would exclusively fish on private charters and support the "little man" but trying to organize a small group isn't that easy. Unless the captain would take say 1-2 people out for say $65.00-$80.00 per person, but that is most unlikely.

If you're going on a party boat, the Blackhawk is by far the best of the lot. I charter 2-3 times a month, run around in my own little boat, and still like to hit the Blackhawk now and then to get out when I don't have anyone to split charters with and it's too windy or choppy to fish my boat. I've fished all kinds of boats from the Keys to Mass., and the Blackhawk is one of the best run party boats. To start with, "smaller" is better in the sound. You're closer to the water and the boat is more manueverable than a larger vessel like the Hellcat or Mijoy. Capt. Greg may yell at you if you're screwing up, so beware if you're thin-skinned. One the other hand, he really makes a point of teaching people rather than just sitting in the wheelhouse. There are always tangles, but also ways to avoid them by understanding the drifts, where lines are running, where to fish, how to weight your line (ex. a few more ounces if fishing one side will keep your line a bit behind and below the rest), and who not to fish by, among other things. I've caught over 100 fish on the same diamond jig over the past 5 trips going back to last fall, including the pool winner last Sunday. I tangled maybe twice that involved a mate and more than one line. Other people spent the entire day tangled and losing rigs. Will you lose rigs? Yes. They are no more expensive on the boat than at Hillyer's (I've checked). I never go on weekends, or when the weather is really nice. I almost always go on the limited trips. In short, for $58, you not getting a charter boat. While party boat fishing is not for everyone, it can be a lot of fun. _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

That about sums it up pretty accurately. I've had some "memorable trips" both good and bad. But that's the thing about it....
Do you have the ability to "adapt and make do"?
Best advice I can say is... GO OUT & DO IT!!!
Then YOU decide is this for me?

Went out on the Blackhawk with CT Outfitters and Daiwa for a demo day. Left the dock at 4pm and fished between Valiant Rock down towards Race Point. Absolutely crushed them! Lots of big keeper bass coming over the rails with most guys limiting, and some big chopper blues as well. Fished the entire trip with no real tangles. Had the entire line of Daiwa saltwater gear to play with. Thanks to Capt. Greg, Gary, Steve, Matt and the rest of the Blackhawk and CT Outfitters crew for an awesome evening on the water. _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

Took the Blackhawk out last Wednesday for their special night bass trip. there were about 18 fishermen and women and about 30 or so keepers taken during the trip, plus a lone bluefish. I caught three, from about 15 to 20 pounds. Nice fish and my first keepers of the year. The pool was split by a pair of 31 pounders. Captain Greg yelled at us all and the mates were very helpful - even to the lesser experienced on board. Once again, a great trip. |

It was nice to be out there, jigging is kind of like a workout on the arms though. I would rather bottom fish! _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"

Jigging is definitely more work. I use a lighter jigging rod with a 6.4:1 reel. Makes a huge difference in that I only have to crank 1 once (4 cranks = 16ft.) for every 2 with the rental rods. Means I'm doing twice the drops per drift. On the night trips it's drifting eels or bucktails. More chance of a snag, but a lot less work. I'm doing the night trip on the 27th. _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.
