I don`t post many pics anymore but today was special. We started the day fluking catching tons of shorts 30 to 40 to be exact and 3 keepers all 3 fish were 22 inches and snapped from the same mold.
The funny part of the day was what happened on our final drift. My brother accidentally hooked a winkle and for fun we decided to take a quick run on a quiet little reef near Southwest ledge.
About 6 minutes later the winkle had been demolished and 3 very nice blacks 4 to 6lbs boated. Who says you can`t catch blackfish in 90 degree heat during midsummer.

Hi!

Winks, Welks, Conch -> What ever name you call them are great as bait, BUT they're even better to eat.

As a kid my Grandmother would par-boil them first, cut out the meaty foot then butterfly them and pound them with a toothed wooden mallet till about 1/8 inch thick then fry them in butter.

They taste just like Abalone from the West Coast (which are also a snail) and a delicacy.

The Italiana's shred the cooked Winks/Welks to make Scungilli a seafood salad. Really delicious!

Hi Phil!

No! Periwinkle is a small shallow water snail you can find on rocks at low tide.
Also very good to eat!

Winks or Welks look like a horn and found in a little deeper water.
