Went and fished black pond in woodstock today from 1-5. The ice was 12 inches which makes me want to buy a power auger! Had my first fish while still setting up then didn't catch anything till the final hour. At the end of the day had caught 3 pickerel, two 11 inchers and one 14.

I'm beginning to think they missed the fall stock for trout out there this year because guys usually do well out at woodstock and all my sources all sound the same pickerel, if not getting skunked! I feel ya on thick ice man, but it does keep you warm drilling holes Razz I was out there day before the warm rains came in and a guy actually drove his pick-up out on the ice over the deepest hole in the lake! We only caught 1 pickerel that day Sad

About Gas Augers... Couple years back, I did something wicked to my elbow drillin holes thru 14" of ice out at Halls Pond. Went online, and ordered a Jiffy Gas auger. After my boats, and my bow, perhaps the best purchase ever made.
Getting em online saved me at least $100 off the "retail" price.
The thing starts on the 2nd pull every time, (not fast enough to crank down the choke, so she stalls after the first pull) and she SIPS gas. When we go, my buddies "wait their turn" to zip thru holes with my auger, with 3-5 blue augers stacked in a pile next to the grillin station.
