Tuesday I decided to check out Remington to see if the discharge was running again and how the action was. Low tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 3:07pm and got to the sandbar just after 2:30pm. Nobody else was out there at the time.
Lures I tried throwing included chrome Skitter Pop SP-9, glass ghost Clackin Minnow CNM-11, blue sardine Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, flake ayu Max Rap MXR-13, stainless steal blue mullet Saltwater Skitter Pop SSP-9, shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, shad Long Cast Minnow LC-10, original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-10, and pearl grey shiner FLR-10, and 4" Berkley Havoc Subwoofer.
As the tide began to turn bunker started making their way in. I landed a 5 pound taylor on the LC-10. The setup was the same one that landed me the 32" striper and 6 weakfish, being the Procyon/Sargus. Already had the drag set and the 5 pound blue gave me a great fight. Took 5 runs on me with Sufix 10 pound Tritanium and managed to get it to shore against a strong current from the discharge.
As the evening went on, fishermen arrived as the blues were still working that same school of bunker. 1 of the fishermen, who I'm familiar with, snagged bunker a number of times. He got chopped in half a lot and landed 2 blues. 1 of the blues he landed did a show and gave him a fight. Ended up being an 8 pound chopper.
I tried snagging bunker by attaching a wire leader followed by a 3/4 ounce Hurricane jighead. Snagged a total of 3 and got chopped twice. The other live bunker didn't get damaged. Seemed like the blues took a break before coming back.
Once it was 7pm the bunker and blues weren't within range. Only thing that was working was leftovers from the chopped bunkers.
Saw a lady land a nice fluke on mackerel earlier in the day. Fluke looked to be about 18" from a distance.
Hit the road around 8:30pm. |
