Fishface (aka Tim) let me know that he was heading out on Batterson Park Pond, so I ran over there with El Habañero. It was warm and muggy. There was little to no wind. The water level was still low. Part of the submerged island is still exposed. The water is also murky. Visibility was limited to about six inches. After I launched, I trolled a couple of Rapala Original Floater F07s, one silver and one perch patterened, out toward the submerged island, where Tim was throwing a frog over the weeds. I didn't get any hits on the way to the island and Tim didn't get any with his frog. I threw a frog for a while too, but didn't get so much as a false strike. I decided to troll around the pond with the Rapalas. I went up the east shore to the far north end, but still got nothing. I threw a wacky rigged five inch green pumpkin/red flake Senko at the only laydown in the pond, but didn't get even a nibble. After Tim finally decided to give the frog a rest, he did some trolling and landed a 14 inch walleye with a silver Rapala Shallow Shad Rap SSR5 near the north end of the beach. Later, he also got a good hit from a small largemouth bass near the submerged island with a frog, but lost it. I, on the other hand, never even saw a fish. We got off the water at 8:30 pm, after it had started to rain. Tim and I concluded that the recent rains had killed the bite. After all, it couldn't have been us, right? _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
