Hit Bashan this morning with my son Josh. We were on the water by 7:45 and off, packed up and pulling out by noon. Water temps ranged from 63-65. Winds were moderate heading into the launch from the other end of the lake.
I saw even more empty beds since my last trip two weeks ago. So I guess there was some late spawning going on. Marked the locations for next year!
After retying my drop shot rig I headed over to the rock garden off the first point across from the island in the center as you move out of the launch. My son Josh was fishing a curly tail worm and landed the first bass while I was retying. Once I got retied I began targeting rocks in 8' and quickly picked up 3 typical Bashan bass 11-13". Fished down to the large dock for the association on the left and picked up another off a rock at the end of the dock in about 6-8'. At that point I tied a drop shot rig for Josh to fish and that's was all that we caught fish on although I threw a wiggle wart crankbait that had worked last time out. He was using a natural small 4" curly tail worm. I was using a black grape zoom finesse worm. We cruised over to the center island and picked up a couple more fishing around the island. Then we shot down to the other end of the lake and fished the west side back to the point opposite the one we started at. All total I landed 8 and Josh landed 5. Nothing to speak of size-wise. All the typical Bashan LMB, so no pics. We did chat with a couple guys fishing the point one of the islands in a Ranger who said the had landed a couple that were 2#ers. A nice trip for only 4 hours. Too bad it's an 75 minute ride from home and a 1/2 tank of gas. |

I hear you, its about a 45 minute ride for me and thats if I find it on the first shot ,which isn't easy if its 5am. The place reminds me of blair which......
WTF, it seems like for the last week gas has been going up $0.10 a day.

Nice job on Bashan Walt. I guess they're saying with the threat of a possible war in North Korea the commodity traders are getting a little skittish making the price of gas go up. _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish......I Love my SKEETER ZX225!!!
