Okay, it's November 18th and we're seeing the coldest weather of the year so far in CT. I still have the fishing bug and have never caught a pike. Is this a good time to get out there?
I have been told that the pike are usually active right before ice starts to form (and of course stay active under ice). I myself know little about pike and pike fishing conditions so I thought I would throw this out there. Here are some things I'm not so sure about:
The water temp. I have no idea what it's at right now at Bantam.
The air temp. Would I be insane to get out there in 30 - 40 degree weather?
What if there's a thin layer of ice as the lake starts this week to freeze over?
What if the weather is not so great, meaning cold fronts moving in and out or heavy rain and wind - do these conditions affect the mood of pike as much as they affect the mood of pike?
What tackle should be used in these conditions for pike?
We don't often talk about pike, so I wanted to throw it out there. _________________ do NOT touch the trim! |

No worries in the ice department. Lakes are still 50+ degrees. We dont see ice until the water temp/surface temp is 36-38 in the day time. |

i got skunked anyways..... there were two skeeter boats there today, I'm not sure how they did.....I wish I had some live bait to use, but no bait shops were open .. check that, the one bait shop I drove by in Southington was not open....
I tried trolling spinnerbaits and crankbaits, and threw the jig to no avail. |
